Further praise for CRCWSC at French conference

Two CRC for Water Sensitive Cities PhD candidates from Monash University who attended the International Conference on Urban Climate in Toulouse in July have been awarded prestigious awards for their presentations.

Stephanie Jacobs and Charlie Lam, researchers in The design of the public realm to enhance urban micro-climates project (B3.2), were part of a team of nine CRCWSC researchers who made a big impression at the international conference.

Stephanie received the William P. Lowry Graduate Student Prize Award, which recognises the best graduate student presentation in the area of urban biometeorology/bioclimatology. She edged out more than 200 other graduate students who were in the running tor the award.

Charlie received a student presentation award for his discussion of the perception of thermal comfort in Melbourne’s botanic gardens. View his conference paper on ResearchGate.

The awardees were selected by a joint committee from the International Association for Urban Climate and the American Meteorological Society.

Water Sensitive Urbanism Program Leader Professor Nigel Tapper said the pair’s achievements highlight the ongoing success of the urban climate program in the CRCWSC.

Charlie was also a finalist in the Science Communication awards at the 2nd Water Sensitive Cities Conference recently.
