PhD students impress at 2nd Water Sensitive Cities Conference dinner
Delegates at the 2nd Water Sensitive Cities Conference in Brisbane were treated to inspiring research summaries from some of the nation’s brightest PhD candidates at the annual participants dinner last night.
Fifty students created research posters for the event, which were judged by an expert panel. Finalists were given the chance to present brief overviews of their research to a room of more than 200 delegates during the conference.
Francesco Gimelli was awarded the $1000 travel prize for his evocative discussion of Governing Water Justly in his poster and two-minute presentation. Francesco, from Monash University, gave a moving presentation on how his research aims to understand the problems facing women in developing countries collecting water, and will help improve water governance.
Veljko Prodanovic from Monash University was awarded the runner-up prize for his Green Walls for Greywater Reuse poster and presentation.
The other finalists included Behzad Jamali and Charlie Lam from Monash University, Carl Davies from University of Western Australia and Gemma Dunn from Monash University (currently studying in Canada).
More than 40 PhD and Masters students were involved in a recent workshop on science communication, which helped develop their skills at presenting their research to different audiences and creating impactful, interesting posters.
