qld-conference-toowoomba-flood-2011-300x168Sustainable water management measures to counter drought and flood effects in the Queensland town of Toowoomba will provide the background for the upcoming Stormwater Queensland state conference on 15-16 July.

CRC for Water Sensitive Cities researchers including Jane-Louise Lampard, Ross Allen, Sandra Hall, Ana Deletic, Belinda Hatt and Angela Dean are confirmed as presenters at the annual conference, being held at Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre.

In recent years, more sustainable water management has been a key focus of the ‘Garden City’. In 2009, the city’s water supply was at an all-time low of 7.7%, leading to major water restrictions, a proposed (and subsequently rejected) indirect potable reuse scheme, and the construction of a $187 million pipeline from Wivenhoe Dam. In January 2011, however, the city and surrounding areas were devastated by flash flooding.

Early Bird Registration for the Conference, which save up to $175 on the standard rate, will close on 22 May. To register, visit https://www.gemsevents.com.au/stormwaterqld/
