Only one week remain before the start of a much-anticipated online course focused on developing resilient and liveable cities for the future.

A collaborative effort between the Monash Water for Liveability Centre (MW4L), the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC), and learning provider FutureLearn, the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Water for Liveable and Resilient Cities, will commence on 2 March 2015, and run for seven weeks.

Learners enrolled in the free course will hear from leading researchers and thought-leaders in Australia and internationally about key actions in delivering water sensitive cities.

Key topics in the course include:

  • The emerging challenges facing our cities
  • How water sensitive cities can be the driver for more resilient cities
  • How water can be managed in our cities to improve their liveability, in the face of climate change and population growth
  • The potential for stormwater, urban aquatic systems, and green infrastructure to improve the urban climate
  • How changes in human behaviour and institutions can complement and assist transitions to water sensitive cities.

Course leader Professor Rob Skinner, Director of the Monash Water for Liveability Centre, and CRCWSC board member will present the sessions along with CRCWSC CEO Professor Tony Wong, Monash Sustainability Institute Director Professor Rebekah Brown; Professor Nigel Tapper from the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment; Professor Ana Deletic from the Department of Civil Engineering; and Professor Diego Ramirez-Lovering from the Department of Architecture.
