Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems
This one day course provides training to enable better design and construction of biofiltration systems. The course compliments the ‘Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems’ developed by the Centre for Cooperative Research for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) and makes reference to other useful resources developed by Water by Design (now Healthy Land and Water).
By the end of this course participants will:
- Appreciate the science behind why and how biofiltration systems work.
- Understand how to apply urban design principles for biofiltration systems.
- Be familiar with the design method for biofiltration systems detailed in ‘Adoption Guidelines for Stormwater Biofiltration Systems’
- Identify common design and construction issues associated with biofiltration systems
Presenters:
This course will be presented by Sydney Water’s Water Sensitive Urban Designer Emma James formerly of E2 Design Lab.
Emma has worked in the field of Water Sensitive Urban Design for more than 10 years, working with leading practitioners in WSUD. Emma has extensive experience in catchment assessment and the development of urban water management strategies at all scales - from on-lot residential solutions to streetscape, subdivision, industrial precinct, public domain and catchment scale strategies. Emma has experience in strategy, planning, design, construction and maintenance of WSUD infrastructure. Emma aspires to create beautiful, liveable urban areas through best practice water management.

Practitioners seeking a working understanding of biofiltration system processes, construction and design, including engineers, landscape architects, ecologists, planners and environmental scientists.
