Learn about urban infill for middle density living

The CRCWSC’s research confirms that placing people and how we live at the centre of design will inevitably deliver greener spaces in our urban landscape.

Now, you can discover new resources for guiding design and informing decisions about quality urban infill in the ‘missing middle’ (middle density living).

As part of the CRCWSC’s IRP4 research program, Australia’s leading professors of architecture from Monash University and The University of Western Australia have developed a catalogue of typologies for middle density living for greener, water sensitive infill developments. To assess the performance of these typologies, water experts from The University of Queensland’s Advanced Water Management Centre have developed a framework to evaluate the performance of infill development at site scale and precinct scale. It compares ‘business as usual’ urban infill against the new typologies.

At this special half-day event in Adelaide, you can join these leading specialists as they discuss:

• typologies for high-performance middle density living that provide for cooler, greener development (think: dual occupancies, courtyard homes, terraces, townhouses and apartment buildings) plus a SA case study seeking to rejuvenate Salisbury East (session by Geoffrey London (UWA) and Nigel Bertram (Monash))
• performance evaluation of ‘business as usual’ urban infill versus the new typologies, with assessment criteria including urban water management, quality of outdoor spaces (private and communal, including space for trees), and thermal comfort (session by Dr Steve Kenway (UQ) and Dr Marguerite Renouf (UQ)).
