Short courses offered on integrated water management
Water industry professionals and researchers are being offered short courses run by the International WaterCentre to coincide with the World Water Congress and Exhibition in Brisbane in October.
Creating Water Sensitive Cities, one of 19 post-conference courses on offer, will explore a new approach for how the hydrological cycle interacts with the urban landscape to support liveable, sustainable, productive and resilient cities and towns.
The course will be run from 17-19 October by Monash Sustainability Institute’s Sustainable Development Education Program manager Dr Annette Bos and CRCWSC Executive Director of Communication and Adoption Fiona Chandler.
Participants will learn the tools and techniques needed to join a growing international community of practitioners leading, influencing and innovating in urban water management using the water sensitive cities paradigm.
Global thought leaders will take participants on an interdisciplinary exploration of the latest thinking and research to address challenges including:
- use of water to underpin planning and creation of more liveable cities in the face of climate change and population growth
- urban design to protect communities, infrastructure and ecosystems from climate extremes and flooding
- creating streets and public spaces that are green and make our cities better places to live
- understanding and influencing social and institutional factors associated with water sensitive cities, including cost and benefits
- developing a strong business case for water sensitive cities and towns
