Workshop-1The CRC for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) aims to influence $500 billion of urban development and $100 billion of water investment over the next six years. To achieve this, industry partners can now nominate to host or support research synthesis projects to enable CRCWSC research to be incorporated into key development and city planning activities.

What is research synthesis?

Research synthesis is a new CRCWSC activity that enables industry partners to benefit directly from the knowledge generated through our research projects.

Research synthesis enables the broad spectrum of knowledge generated by the CRCWSC’s research projects to be collated and applied to the specific context of a case study. It enables industry partners to work directly with CRCWSC researchers and participants to determine how the knowledge can be applied to help address challenges encountered by industry partners in these specific projects.

The outputs are ‘Ideas for‘ reports that have been used by our partners to directly influence the scope and options in urban designs, planning permits and water servicing options analyses. ‘Ideas for’ reports have been produced for projects including Ripley Valley, Batavia Marina Stage 2 and Fishermans Bend.

More information about research synthesis can be found here.

How can industry partners get involved?

CRCWSC has completed eight research synthesis projects and it is anticipated that a further ten will be completed each year. We are now calling on industry partners to nominate new projects for research synthesis.

CRCWSC Chief Executive Tony Wong said: “We are asking industry partners to nominate projects that allow the CRCWSC to showcase and demonstrate application of the exciting research that has been developed over these past three years. We think that our research synthesis process can be incredibly useful to industry partners by helping them to integrate their visions of a water sensitive city into the specific projects that they are working on.”

Funding

Research Synthesis projects typically involve a two day design workshop held on-site. A CRCWSC research synthesis team is developed to match the needs of the case study, and may include researchers as well as private industry partners including small-to-medium enterprises (SME) partners of the CRCWSC who can bring skills that complement those of the researchers.

Costs, such as travel, report production and in some cases a labour, are shared between CRCWSC and the sponsoring industry partners to ensure that funding is not taken away from core research activities. Costs of research synthesis activities are expected to range between $10,000 to $40,000.
