Dr David McCarthy from Monash University’s Department of Civil Engineering (and co-Author of the Biofilters and wetlands for stormwater treatment and harvesting – see previous news article) has been awarded the Victorian Young Tall Poppy Science Award – an award that celebrates the achievements of Australia’s outstanding young scientific researchers. Winners were recently invited to have dinner with the Prime Minister of Australia the Hon. Tony Abbott, MP during the presentation of “The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science”. The Australian Institute of Policy and Science recognised David’s work as an early career researcher, and his excellent communication of his research to industry and the wider community. As part of this award, David will inspire school students and the broader community about the possibilities of science through a range of science promotion activities, including visits to schools, educational seminars, workshops, public talks and other activities.

Congratulations David!
