More than 3800 people have registered for the free online course delivered by Monash Water for Liveability Centre, the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) and platform provider FutureLearn.

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Water for Liveable and Resilient Cities, has created buzz around water sensitive city and water management topics with nearly 1000 participants completing at least one learning step since the course started on 2 March.

Researchers from the CRCWSC including Prof Ana Deletic, Prof Nigel Tapper and Prof Diego Ramirez-Lovering are delivering units on topics including how water can be managed in our cities to improve their liveability in the face of climate change and population growth, and the potential for stormwater, urban aquatic systems, and green infrastructure to improve the urban climate.

While the course is delivered over seven weeks, new registrations are still being accepted and participants can work on past sessions at their own pace.

During the first week, the most discussed topics focused on the role of water in future cities, defining sustainability, resilience and liveability, the Melbourne response to the millennium drought and what liveability means to individuals.

In week two, topics that have resonated with learners included the indirect/direct potable reuse and the water-energy nexus.
