The Water Corporation of Western Australia has developed the Strategic Resource Precinct concept – also known as “buffertopia” – to transform the way it manages its wastewater treatment plants and the buffer zones that surround them. The result is a range of benefits beyond simply treating and disposing of wastewater.

To explore the concept in more detail, the current project considers  the Subiaco wastewater treatment plant in Perth. Together with the CRC for  Water Sensitive Cities and using the  Research Synthesis process, the Water Corporation hosted a stakeholder workshop to generate new ideas for the Subiaco precinct  and to ask: “What could the precinct be, rather than what it is now?”

The report compiles ideas generated by the workshop, which included  land owners from the buffer zone and stakeholders from state and local government.
