DesignFlow-projectDesignFlow is one of the Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) to be granted Associate Membership status in the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities.

DesignFlow is a small consulting firm specialising in water sensitive urban design (WSUD), working with design collaborators to develop sustainable outcomes for communities through innovative designs that integrate water with community spaces.

Director Shaun Leinster said the company’s design approach draws heavily from natural systems that focus on collecting, filtering, reusing, conserving and enjoying water in urban spaces.

“We are involved in the development and research of new water management ideas through collaborations with the likes of the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities and have particular interest in converting research findings into practical outcomes,” Mr Leinster said.

“We have considerable experience in stormwater harvesting for reuse with our designs harvesting over 4,000 ML each year in operating schemes. We are also particularly interested in research to optimise harvest potential from limited available urban spaces.”

One of the harvesting projects DesignFlow has been engaged in is the biofiltration scheme at Unity Park in Salisbury, South Australia. The research site consists of six biofiltration cells that are extensively instrumented to allow real time flow and water quality data to be collected for each cell.

Designing the cells in this way, and installing extensive monitoring equipment, has facilitated research to demonstrate the most efficient configuration for large scale biofiltration treatment of stormwater in South Australia.
