New publication: Moving toward Water Sensitive Cities
Drawing on experience from cities around the world that are actively making water sensitive transitions, CRC for Water Sensitive Cities researchers have created tools to assist industry and government in creating an “ideal water future”.
A new report, ‘Moving toward Water Sensitive Cities: A guidance manual for strategists and policy makers’ has been published as part of research for Cities as Water Supply Catchments – Society and Institutions (Project A4.1).
Professor Rebekah Brown, Dr Briony Rogers and Lara Werbeloff looked at the pathways taken by diverse cities such as Port Vila, Vanuatu and Lodz, Poland in improving urban water management. The research also produced three qualitative benchmarking tools “to assist urban water policy makers and strategists identify current water management practice and future aspiration, as well as the institutional changes required to realise this vision.”
“Using the Framework, cities are able to locate current water management practices and identify the capacity needs and institutional changes required for more sustainable water management. With this information, urban water strategists can then define both short and long term sustainability goals for their city.”
Ms Werbeloff made a well-received presentation on the research at OzWater’16 last week in Melbourne.
