The CRC for Water Sensitive Cities’   Comprehensive Economic Evaluation Framework (IRP2)   is ready to trial the BETA version of the   Benefit Cost Analysis   Tool  (WP3)  and the   Non Market Value   Tool   (WP2).   Both tools have been custom-built in close engagement with key stakeholders over the past 18 months.  The opportunity to be the first to access and trial these tools is now available to CRCWSC Participant organisations and IRP2 Steering Committee members.  This practical training session is being offered to water sector professionals who are involved in economics, project evaluation, or business case development in water-related projects.

There will be two training session offered; one in   Perth on Friday 22nd June from 9am to 12:30pm   at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, and the second in   Melbourne on Thursday 19th July from 9am to 12:30pm   at the Monash Law Chambers.  The two training sessions will be delivered by Professor David Pannell, leader for the development of the Benefit Costs Analysis (BCA) tool.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of the principles and concepts of Benefit: Cost Analysis (BCA), and will be guided through the process of conducting a BCA of an illustrative water sensitive project (restoration of an urban drain to a “living stream” in Perth), including how to locate relevant non market values available in the Non Market Values Database and, if needed, how to adjust the values to suit the particular project under evaluation. The results will demonstrate how these tools can help in better decision making and stronger business-case development to achieve water sensitive, liveable and resilient cities.

The training is free but limited to one person per Participant organisation. Participants must fund their own travel arrangements. Participant organisations from QLD, NSW and SA should contact their Regional Manager to enquire about funding support towards the airfare.  As it is a half-day session, many people should be able to do a day trip to Melbourne to attend the training.
