Warmest congratulations are due to Professor Zhiguo Yuan, who has been awarded prestigious funding of $2.9 million over 5 years to develop a suite of leading-edge biotechnology solutions to enable the cost-effective production of liquid chemicals from biogas.

One of only 17 research leaders to be awarded a prestigious Australian Research Council (ARC) Australian Laureate Fellowship, Professor Yuan is Program Leader of the CRC for Water Sensitive Cities’ Future Technologies (Program C) research.

With a multi-disciplinary approach, Professor Yuan’s new project will substantially advance the fundamental science of the exciting and highly valuable area of anaerobic microbial conversion of methane, the least understood process in the global carbon cycle. This transformational research has a strong potential to create a new biotechnology sector that produces high-value chemicals from methane and propels Australia to the forefront of sustainable resources research.

Aiming to attract and retain outstanding researchers and research leaders of international reputation and to foster ground-breaking, internationally competitive research, this ARC award marks continued recognition of Professor Yuan’s visionary work in finding innovative solutions for urban water management. Congratulations Zhiguo!
